“Paints and Patinas” highlight Amapola artists’ co-op Gallery’s November Featured Artists display. Vera Russell supplies the paints and Jeannette Easley, the patinas.
Vera Russell, an artist since her childhood, has lived and painted throughout much of the world, using pastels, acrylics, watercolors, and her favorite, oils. She even operated a well-regarded ceramics business for several years. Ms. Russell says she paints “whatever is in sight,” with southwest landscapes her favorite subject. I myself recall a dandy portrait of an onion so realistic it nearly brought me to tears.
Jeanette Easley’s patinas appear on her silver, copper, and repurposed silver plate jewelry. In time for the holidays, she will have a line of Christmas tree earrings and other seasonal wearable art, delicate and refined beadwork and beadwork spirit dolls. Jeanette’s exhibit also includes mixed media collage on small canvases, generally in a rustic, southwestern style.
Meet the artists at their reception Friday, November 2, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Amapola Gallery, 205 Romero N.W., on the Plaza in Old Town.
“Paints and Patinas” will run through November, daily 10 to 5, except Thanksgiving Day. (505) 242-4311 or amapolagallery.com.
