The original title of Amapola Gallery’s Featured Artist exhibition for May was “A Blast of Color. ” That’s wonderfully descriptive of Ann Tidrow Connely’s acrylic landscapes. These glorious southwestern vignettes are all about light – – mountains, foothills, our triumphant desert plants and over all our color – blasting sunset skies. Stunning’s the word.
May’s second Featured Artist is Kristin Parrott, yours truly. I, too paint sunset skies but they form a backdrop for serene, barren trees and quiet pathways, both beckoning with potential. Then there are the hollyhocks, my latest obsession. Lots of color but also solitude, which is our second title.
Ann will also exhibit her charming handbuilt ceramics which incorporate 3D pueblo walls and Native children in their designs.
No exhibit of mine is complete without an array of my soapstone and alabaster carvings. Hands, critters and more hands, some inlaid with turquoise.
Meet Ann and me at our First Friday reception 4 to 7 on May 5.
Enjoy a blast of “Color and Solitude ” at Amapola artists co-op Gallery, on the Plaza in Old Town, 205 Romero N.W. Open daily from 10 to 5.
