“Hollyhocks, Wood Grain and Rainbows” – November Featured Artists

The triple threat of Marti Anspach, Neal Drago and Amy Jane Johnson create Amapola Gallery’s Featured Artists exhibit for November.

Art from Martie Anspach, Featured Artist July at Amapola Gallery.

Printmaker Martie Anspach produces charming etchings and lino cuts with a variety of natural-world subjects. Hollyhock dominate here, but not to the exclusion of other delicate, subtle works. (Hard to imagine a domineering, exclusive hollyhock. It’s just wrong.)

This is a tall ring box from Neal Drago.

Neal Drago’s meticulously hand-crafted boxes combine beautifully grained wood with touches of Sterling and turquoise. Shapes suggested by nature provide unique beauty and gracefully complement Anspach’s works.

Amy Jane Johnson’s rainbow tie-dyed baby socks and onesies, and elegant ladies’ scarves and wraps take you from “awww” to “ooo.” They are both distinctive and easy to wear. She carries her clear, vibrant colors over to her ceramic mugs, plates and vessels, each a pleasure to peruse. And, of course, to use.

All in all, this is a joyful and wide ranging grouping. Experience it through November, and meet the artists Friday, November 1st from 4 to 7.

Amapola artists’ co-op Gallery, open 10 to 5 daily at historic Romero House, 205 Romero, N.W., on the Plaza in Old Town.
