Like many members of Amapola artists’ co-op, guest member artist Sally Rugala was born and raised elsewhere, but she’s been a New Mexican since she was a teen. She’s pursued an interest in art and craft all her life but her degree is in computer science and her “day job ” was in computer software.
Sally carries a meticulous attention to detail into her distinctive jewelry. Though she’s a veteran of many metal -smithing classes in Santa Fe, her work in Amapola combines photographic images into earrings and pendants.
The photographs are her own, some of her paintings (great dogs, cats and more) and some not. These she mounts in silverplate settings for a fresh, clean, different –readily affordable — look in jewelry. The technique easily lends itself to special orders, including memorial work.
Come see Sally Rugala’s work, and how it contrasts with and complements the range of treasures by our other five jewelers!
Amapola Gallery is open daily, 10am – 5pm. It is home to Guest Member Sally Rugala as well as 39 other artists. The artists’ cooperative is located on historic Old Town Plaza in Albuquerque.
After a lifetime batting words around like shuttlecocks in an endless game of badminton, it is a pleasure to use them to promote Old Town and my fellow artists at Amapola Gallery. –Kristin Parrott, carver, painter and acorn stuffer
