Amapola Gallery Opens Featured Artists May Exhibit
Sometimes even two artists can be nearly too much! Amapola Gallery’s featured artists for May will take you there.
Debra Montoya and Kay Richards share a love of color that will knock your socks off — eye candy of the jazziest kind.
Debra’s family has lived in New Mexico since the 1500s and her mosaics vibrate with the intensity of a Spanish garden. She meticulously combines glass, her own ceramics, charms and found objects into an art form distinctly her own, to hang on the wall or to wear.
Kay Richards, mixed media maven, is a relative newcomer (most of us are!) arriving in New Mexico in 1965 from Michigan. She transforms the light and color dance of her beloved Southwest into triumphant paintings and collage on paper, canvas and board.Kay’s works for this exhibit will showcase our endless, restless skies.
Bright colors, Southwestern motifs and new ideas and techniques are delightful constants in the works of both Debra Montoya and Kay Richards.
Not too much, really. Bursts of color and joy to bring happiness to the lucky viewer.
See this exciting work at two special events: the artists reception May 6 from 4pm – 7pm; and, during the Old Town Stroll May 21st. Or course, we invite you to view our featured artists exhibit (as well as the works of 38 other artists) daily from 10-5. Think that perfect gift for Mom, for the graduate or just for fun.
Amapola Artists’ Co-operative Gallery, on The Plaza above Yay! Yogurt, the best gallery above the best treats in Old Town. Really!
After a lifetime batting words around like shuttlecocks in an endless game of badminton, it is a pleasure to use them to promote Old Town and my fellow artists at Amapola Gallery. –Kristin Parrott, carver, painter and acorn stuffer
