August Featured Artists Tap Color and Light

Watercolorist Carol Sparks and glass maven Diana Swanson team up for Amapola Gallery’s Featured Artist exhibit “Expressions with Living Color and Light.”

This watercolor is the work of August Featured Artist Carol Sparks at Amapola Gallery Albuquerque.

Sparks, an Albuquerque native, captures our stunning New Mexico light through her use of color, sharing her sense of awe at the landscapes and cultural traditions that surround us.

This glass is the work of August Featured Artist Diana Swanson and is showing at Amapola Gallery Albuquerque.

Swanson is a relative newcomer, in New Mexico since 2008. She declares herself a “glassaholic,” hooked on glass fusion. This process combines pieces of glass with heat to meld one of a kind ornamental and functional art pieces.

Each woman conveys her enjoyment of color and the play of light in each distinctive piece of her art.

Meet the artists at our reception, 4-7pm on Friday August 5. The show is open daily 10-5 through August at Amapola Gallery, an artists’ co-operative, on the Plaza in Albuquerque’s Historic Old Town.

After a lifetime batting words around like shuttlecocks in an endless game of badminton, it is a pleasure to use them to promote Old Town and my fellow artists at Amapola Gallery. –Kristin Parrott, carver, painter and acorn stuffer
